Take your climbing journey to the next level with our one-day Intro to Trad Climbing Course at Glasgow Outdoor Pursuits! Designed for those new to traditional climbing, this course provides the next step on your rock climbing journey on natural rock, with a focus on essential skills, trad climbing equipment, seconding climbs and building confidence.

 

What to Expect -

Intermediate Course: This course is suitable for those who already competent lead belayers, whether indoors or out and who are looking to develop their climbing, start climbing outdoors or experiencing traditional rock climbing.

Safety Essentials: Start with a refresher on fitting your harness and helmet, tying into the rope, and reviewing key safety practices. 

Skill Building: Develop essential climbing skills, including dynamic belaying, positioning and lowering climbers. These foundational techniques will prepare you for future climbing adventures.

Traditional Climbing Skills: Learn how to use a range of traditional climbing equipment, including placing and removing gear, attaching yourself to anchors, and understanding their critical role in climbing safety.

Seconding Trad Routes: Gain hands-on experience seconding trad routes, with expert guidance to enhance your understanding of this critical role in climbing partnerships.

Abseiling: Learn how to safely abseil, a vital skill for accessing or retreating from crags and routes in trad climbing.

Route Reading: Develop your ability to read climbing routes effectively, an invaluable skill for planning and navigating real-world climbs.

Movement Coaching: Improve your technique with movement coaching on real rock, designed to refine your climbing skills and help you move with greater confidence and efficiency.

Crag Etiquette and Guidebooks: Gain a deeper understanding of crag etiquette and learn how to make the best use of guidebooks for planning future climbing adventures.

Incredible Settings: Spend time climbing on real rock at some of Scotland’s most stunning locations, soaking in the beauty of nature while pushing your limits.

Group Size: With a 1:2 instructor-to-climber ratio, you’ll receive plenty of one-on-one guidance and support to ensure a safe and enriching experience.

Safety Kit: We provide helmets, harnesses and all of the equipment for you to safely enjoy the session! If you do have your own harness, helmet and shoes, feel free to bring them along.

 

What do you need to bring?

Clothing: Please wear suitable clothing that will be compatible with a climbing harness and that will not restrict your movement. Securely attached and close toed footwear is required to, so unfortunately no crocs, flip flops or sandals!

Weather: Our sessions will go ahead in all but the most inclement weather, so make sure you bring your waterproofs, a sun hat, and plenty of water to stay hydrated, this way you will be prepared for whatever weather Scotland throws our way.

Yes, our activities will proceed as planned, rain or shine! At Glasgow Outdoor Pursuits, we believe a little rain adds to the adventure and provides an authentic outdoor experience. Our instructors are experienced in managing sessions in all weather conditions, ensuring safety and enjoyment throughout.

We recommend wearing appropriate clothing, such as waterproof jackets and sturdy footwear, to keep comfortable. If conditions become unsafe due to extreme weather, we will inform you of any changes to the schedule.

Can I get a refund if I need to cancel my booking?

We understand that plans can change. Our refund policy is as follows:

Full Refund: Cancellations made at least 28 days before the activity date will receive a 100% refund.

Partial Refund: Cancellations made between 14 and 28 days before the activity date will receive a 50% refund.

No Refund: Unfortunately, cancellations made less than 14 days before the activity date are non-refundable.

However, we’re here to help! If you need to cancel within 14 days of your activity, please contact us as soon as possible. Depending on the circumstances, we may be able to offer credit for a future booking or reschedule your activity to another date.
